The first big chapter book I read by myself was Harry Potter and The Sorcerer's Stone, and from there I was hooked on series. I have read more books than I can count and The Hunger Games Series is sill one of my favorites. As soon as I saw this class I knew I would love it. I have always been really interested in textual analysis and I like to relate the books I'm reading to the world around me. As far as my favorite Hunger Games character, I would have to say Katniss. My favorite scene in the first book is when she volunteers for Prim. I immediately connected to her at this point because I have a little sister that was the exact same age as Prim while I was reading the books. I feel that I would have done the same thing had I been in Katniss' position because my sister is immensely important to me and I would do anything to protect her. As I read further on, I began to connect more and more because Katniss is witty, independent, and values her family above everything else; these are qualities I feel connected to. I was not always thrilled with the way Suzanne Collins wrote about Katniss because I felt that, at times, she was inconsistent and that made Katniss appear weak or indecisive when she clearly is not. I'm really looking forward to seeing how other people interpret the different characters and their importance to the development of the novel.
